32nd
Annual Rocky Mountain
Mennonite Relief Sale
On October 19 and 20
over thirty CO and NM and West Texas area Mennonites/Brethren in Christ churches
invite shoppers to the Arkansas Valley fairgrounds in Rocky
Ford, to discover our festival of food, fellowship and fun.
The 32nd Rocky Mountain Mennonite Relief Sale provides all this and
it's for a great cause, the worldwide work of Mennonite Central
Committee.
Click
here for a list of events at this years sale. The event
begins Friday evening with a pork barbeque dinner, musical entertainment,
and a preview of the quilts and other arts and crafts and antiques that will
be auctioned on Saturday. The antiques, arts and crafts auction starts Saturday
morning at 9:30 and the quilt auction begins at 1:30 pm. Hand-stitched
quilts highlight the event with afghans,
comforters, and wall hangings being auctioned. MCC seeks
to demonstrate God's love by working among people suffering from
poverty, conflict, oppression and natural disasters. MCC
serves as a channel for interchange by building relationships that
are mutually transformative. MCC strives for peace, justice
and dignity of all people by sharing our experiences, resources, and
faith in Jesus Christ.
$102.4
million in financial and material resources were gathered this past
year for MCC. Currently MCC has about 1000 international
workers in 56 countries. In FY 2006, 21 countries received
material and/or food assistance, and 70 countries received financial
support. 85% of funds raised through "relief sales" goes
directly to the field. According to the American Institute of
Philanthropy (Jan. '07), MCC received an "A" rating regarding use of
funds. See
www.charitywatch.org.
Our sale
has contributed over $1.8 million to MCC over the past 31 years -
testimony that many small contributions can make a big difference in
the lives of those in need.
