“Waking Sparrow” from Denver, CO

Waking Sparrow started as a group of four young singer-songwriters at First Mennonite Church in Denver, CO.  After a few practices, the group learned that they gelled together well and formed a band. The members include Andi Hagerup, Bonnie Gregory, Greg Devlin, and Jenny Thompson.  Guest percussionist, Dan Eisenstat, has also played an integral role.

This past year the band played in the Victim Offender Reconciliation Program's benefit concert.  Also, the three women wrote a song (called “New Day Rises”) for Women Beyond Borders, seeking to take on the voice of marginalized women in Afghanistan and Pakistan, expressing their hopes and concerns for these women.

Sparrows seem to symbolize so much of what this band is about: community, vigilance, creativity, light heartedness, and how there is safe-keeping, bounty and beauty for even the smallest of God’s creations.  Awakening this awareness through song, Waking Sparrow hopes to make a positive impact on all who will listen.

A joint effort of over 30 Mennonite and Brethren in Christ Congregations in Colorado, New Mexico and West Texas. All proceeds go directly to Mennonite Central Committee.
